FORUM DEVELOPS COMMUNITY LEADERS
Leaders are the life-blood of small towns and rural communities . The success of community development efforts often rests with the degree of leadership locals are willing to provide . As part of our Landholders Driving Change ( LDC ) project , we launched a leadership program developed specifically for graziers in the Bowen and Collinsville region . Thirteen local producers signed up to the program , designed to support their personal and professional development .
The program consists of four two-day workshops delivered by some of Australia ’ s leading trainers and facilitators including Jill Rigney ( The Right Mind ), Jo Eady ( Rural Scope ), James Aldon ( PD Training ), and Julia Telford ( Engage and Create Consulting ).
Reid Muirhead , of Weetalaba Station , said he signed up to enhance his knowledge , skills and understanding of emotional intelligence and teamwork .
“ It ’ s exciting to be part of an enthusiastic and committed group of
Reid Muirhead people who are keen
to build interpersonal , selfmanagement and personal skills to help us improve and promote a well connected industry and successful businesses .”

NRM PLAN REVIEW UNDERWAY
This year we began reviewing the Burdekin Dry Tropics Natural Resource Management ( NRM ) Plan . Launched in 2016 , the plan sets out a 10-year blueprint for how the community can work together to protect and sustainably manage our region ’ s land , water , plants and animals . It was developed over three years under the guidance of a dedicated community stakeholder group in consultation with landholders , technical experts , landcare groups , government , industry bodies and the wider Burdekin Dry Tropics population .
Helping us review the plan is an advisory panel comprising representatives from Local and Queensland Government , science , industry , landcare , graziers and cane growers . Back in May we held an advisory panel meeting to determine the scope of the review , and how the community would be involved . The revised plan will be complete in mid-2021 .
