Policy Guidance
One of the College’s key duties as a medical
regulator is to provide guidance to Ontario
physicians on professionalism and on specific
issues that are relevant to the practice of
medicine. We are committed to ensuring that
our policies reflect current practice issues,
embody the values and duties of medical
professionalism, and are consistent with the
College’s mandate to protect the public.
In 2017, College policy addressed such issues
as:
• the bundling of insured services with
uninsured services – i.e. upselling
• the use of introductory “meet and
greet” appointments
• those circumstances in which it may
be appropriate to end the physician-
patient relationship, and those
circumstances when it is not.
• appropriate opioid prescribing and
ensuring that physicians are directed
to the most recent guidelines.
