ELMER GATES MEMORIAL
CLAY SHOOT
The Elmer Gates Memorial Clay Shoot was a big
success again in 2017. The shoot continues to
honor the legacy of SkillsUSA Council founder
Elmer Gates, who dedicated his life to young and
developing leaders. Matt Rice, a student from
Lehigh Career & Technical Institute and SkillsUSA
Council Ambassador spoke on how being involved
with SkillsUSA has enhanced his CTE education.
Business and industry partners had an opportunity
to network and the proceeds from the event helped
to further the mission of SkillsUSA Council.
LEADERSHIP BY EXAMPLE BREAKFAST
The Leadership By Example Breakfast recognizes
the work of an individual in our community who
exemplifies the principles we instill in our students
and promotes the value of career and technical
education. It also provides an opportunity for the
Council to reflect on the successes of the previous year
and share goals for the coming year with our members.
This year Luke Cunningham, President of West Side
Hammer Electric Inc., was honored as our “Leader By
Example”. Mr. Cunningham is a current SkillsUSA
Council Board Member and Council Past President.
Luke has continuously showed support of the Council
and Career & Technical Education.
Also honored were Sandee and Dave Rinehart with the
Volunteer of the Year Award. Sandee has been involved
with SkillsUSA since 1976. She is the main contact
for the Leadership Competitions for the District
Championships. Zach Bayer, from Monroe Career &
Technical Institute, was the student speaker and shared
his experience being involved with SkillsUSA.
