The Family Literacy program served over 70 families in classes held three days per
week at six DC schools. Parent and Child Together (PACT) classes, held once per
month at each school, gave parents an opportunity to practice how to help their
children succeed academically. For the coming academic year, Family Literacy
classes will be held four days per week in order to give students more class time and
in order for the program to become more aligned with the ESL classes at Carlos
Rosario.

The Carlos Rosario student government, with 60 members, organized projects in
response to needs identified by students. The student government collected toys and
clothes for patients at Children’s Hospital, participated in a team-building and
leadership retreat, organized a public speaking seminar, and directed a fundraiser for
scholarships.

The Carlos Rosario School completed the build-out of its lower level, which houses
offices and five classrooms.

The school piloted a course to prepare students for the Test of English as a Foreign
Language (TOEFL). The exam is used by more than 6,000 institutions a
