Supportive Services Workshops/Activities
Visa Lottery Workshop: This workshop is conducted annually by the department as a whole to
educate and assist students with the completion of the visa lottery application. Seventy-seven
students attended the workshop. Assistance was provided to all students completing the
application.
HIV/AIDS Information Tables: This year the department worked with La Clinica del Pueblo
in educating the student body about HIV/AIDS. La Clinica del Pueblo HIV/AIDS counselors
provided critical, life-saving information to the student body and distributed over 800 HIV/AIDS
prevention packets over a two-day period.
Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome Workshop: This workshop was conducted by a team of
licensed counselors and social workers from La Clinica del Pueblo in each individual classroom.
The workshop educated the students regarding the signs, symptoms, and dangers of Post
Traumatic Stress Syndrome as well as treatment and resources. The workshop was provided to
the entire student body. A total of 922 attended the workshop.
Domestic Violence Workshop: This year the department worked with four community
agencies: DC Rape Crisis Center, Break the Cycle and My Sister’s Place and Women
Empowered Against Domestic Violence in educating the student body about Domestic Violence,
the rights of the victim, reporting, “breaking the cycle” and local and national resources. The
workshop was provided to the entire student body in each individual classroom. A total of 988
students attended the workshop.
Police/Community Workshop: The Student
Government and the Latino Liaison Unit of the
Metropolitan Police Department worked
together to educate the student body regarding
safety tips and police/community relations.
Workshops were held in assembly format. A
total of 847 students attended the workshop.
Adults on the Move Workshop: This
workshop was conducted by a College Board
representative. The workshop was attended by
students interested in pursuing a college
degree/vocational Certification. The workshop
informed students on next steps, academic
requirements, and financial planning. A total of
52 students attended the workshop.
Officers with the Latino Liaison unit of the DC Metropolitan
Police present a workshop on safety.
