Mission Statement
Since 1970, the Carlos Rosario Charter School has provided educational services to the
DC adult immigrant population. The Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School (Carlos
Rosario Charter) opened in 1998 in order to further extend these services to the DC immigrant
community with the following mission:
The mission of the Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School is to provide
education that prepares the diverse adult immigrant population of Washington, DC to become
invested, productive citizens and members of American society who ultimately give back to
family and community. The school will accomplish this through excellence in teaching and
learning in partnership with the community and by fostering a safe and compassionate learning
environment.
The Carlos Rosario School Mission at Work:
Teacher Sheryl Sherwin attended Norma’s graduation.
Norma Rosario de Jesus is a shining star whose
achievements represent the realm of possibilities
available to students who pursue their academic
dreams. A native of the Dominican Republic
who immigrated five years ago, Norma studied
ESL levels 1 through 4 at the Carlos Rosario
School. She then went on to attend Trinity
College where she discovered her affinity for
accounting and economics. She graduated cum
laude in May 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in
Business. Already at age 23, she has many
accomplishments and is now working as the
Student Accounts Manager at the Corcoran
College of Art and Design and has begun
pursuing her Masters Degree in Accounting. Her
ultimate goal is to become a CPA. Norma is well
on her way to that goal and credits her passion to
go to school to her teachers at the Carlos Rosario
School. She states that “support from my
teachers Ms. Sherwin and Ms. Cammack
inspired me to pursue higher education, and the
classes I took at Carlos Rosario School helped
me to know what I wanted and have the
confidence to go to college.”
