This year-long program is specifically designed to prepare emerging leaders for successfully directing our schools. The residency consists of targeted professional development; one-on-one coaching; and real-world experiences serving on a PLA campus with a Mentor Principal. The goal of the program is to ensure that all Residents are successful principals who lead effective schools for five or more years.

Reading Advantage provides additional support to our scholars throughout the school year. PLA believes this is an opportunity to work with all scholars in a small group setting to not only help those that have deficits but also provide advanced opportunities to meet or exceed grade-level expectations. Scholars receive small group instruction in English Language Arts (ELA) four days a week. Interventions are tightly structured and taught by certified teachers, following the evidence-based curriculum. Results show our scholars advance 3-4 reading levels annually as a result of Reading Advantage and grow by over 5% annually in ELA standardized testing.

Summer Advantage is a free, evidence-based summer learning program geared toward children who are academically at-risk, live in low-income communities, and do not have access to the high-quality summer learning needed to thrive. Our full-day, five week program includes rigorous morning academics; afternoon enrichment; healthy meals; and “Fun Fridays” that consist of amazing guest speakers, field trips, college campus visits or on-site college fairs, and scholar-led community service projects. Rather than experiencing summer learning loss, our scholars gain, on average, at least one month of grade equivalent skills in reading and mathematics and return to school with increased confidence.
SUMMER ADVANTAGE
Math Advantage provides additional mathematics support to close achievement gaps, target specific skill deficits and create individualized learning paths for scholars at every grade level. Math Interventionists work with scholars in full group instruction, small group instruction and through individualized learning paths. Lessons assigned to each scholar identify and build the foundational skills needed to master grade level standards.
