Member Trail Group Updates South Whiteshell Trail Association
2021 was a busy year for the South Whiteshell Trail Association . The year started with winter grooming of the Lost Lake Trail and the Blue Highway Route for snow shoeing and fat tire bike riding . January and February , 2021 where mild and the snow conditions were perfect for maintaining the trails with a new snowmobile towed groomer and a snow-dog groomer . The trails were very well used by fat tire enthusiasts from across the province .
An erosion control blanket , gravel and native grass seed were placed on a steep section of the TCT that has persistent washouts . This work was supervised and supported by a Ducks Unlimited biologist . Trail maintenance was preformed by volunteers along with equipment and operator support from Parks Operations staff at several other locations on the TCT .
Improved signage and four granite benches were installed along sections of the TCT . A grand opening was held for the Penniac Bay Shoreline Trail , on Sept 10th . It was a beautiful day for a ribbon cutting with representatives from TCT , TM , and the Provincial Government . Prior to the event Brent D ’ Argis from Dargy ’ s Yard Construction , installed a granite bench and two permanent signs on the bump out in the middle of the shoreline trail . One is an interpretive sign of the gold mining history in the area . The second sign is recognition of all the private and corporate donations that supported the construction of this trail section .

Trail Association of the North Whiteshell
The North Whiteshell Trail is part of the Trans-Canada Trail , it runs from Rennie at the south end to Seven Sisters at the north , connecting major lakes , trails and recreation areas between .
The Trail Association of the North Whiteshell is gradually filling its board positions and volunteer ranks . A big thanks to those volunteers stepping up ! A trail audit is currently being undertaken , where by its results will help guide our trail activities and ongoing maintenance . With the change of trail name ( TCT vs . The Great Trail ) we are again undertaking the replacement of signage along our trail system to have the correct name . We continue to work closely with Parks and the with the other trail associations in the Whiteshell .
