Attack on Titan Anime Review:

A Masterpiece

or

A Lacking Centerpiece

Attack on Titan, probably the most popular anime of 2013. However, was all the hype worth it? Was a show with such a devoted fan base and undying efforts of publicity really not a waste of time? To put it as plainly as possible, in my own personal opinion, yes it was. Attack on Titan was almost all it was cracked up to be. I say almost because every show has its flaws, and of course, flaws in the mainstream are all to easy to pick out.

The is a summary of the story for AoT. Humanity is on the brink of extinction because of the sudden appearance of a race of humanoids preferably titled, Titans. These creatures devour humans simply for their own satisfaction, even though they could probably go months to years without nourishment. So, in order to further defend themselves, the remaining humans built three walls to protect themselves. They also invented devices referred by the proper title of 3 Dimensional Maneuver Gear (picture below) and discovered a way to eliminate the Titans. When then come to the main storyline involving the main protagonist, Eren Jaeger. We begin behind the first wall, Wall Maria, Eren’s home. The setting is peaceful, where everything seems to be somewhat normal; that is until a Colossal Titan suddenly appears and kicks a hole in the wall surrounding the city. The Titans suddenly begin flooding in, and a massacre ensues. In the midst of the chaos, Eren’s mother is devoured, and Eren (along with his friend Mikasa and Armin) are transported safely behind the second wall (Wall Rose). Two years after said incident, Eren begins his training as a soldier in the military, in the company of his friends, to fulfill his goal of completely annihilating the Titans.
