Adding on to Willis O ’ Brian ’ s work Aardman developed lip synching by moulding their model ’ s mouths into shapes of vowels so that when they looked like they were talking it would look more realistic . By using the armature Willis O ’ Brian created , they added joint in them to make it easier for them to use and when they moved each models this would them they flow so the picture would look better when it is sped up . Aardman make all of their backgrounds and scenery , they still use a bit of green screening but not as much as other companies . They have missives of sets of inside houses for the characters and towns , so when they come to film they place the cameras into the locations . More like a movie for actual people . Another technique that Aardman uses to create their animation and to help it flow is there use of high frame rates , which is shoots 24 frames per second . Each frame equals one move and that Aardman uses 21,600 moves per frame to make a 30 minuet film . If they wanted to make a 90-minute film they would have to use 64,000 moves per frame . In 1990 Aardman won their first academy award for best animated short film for Creature Comforts . In 1993 they won an Oscar with the completion of Nick Park ' s work " The Wrong Trousers ". This was also Aardman ’ s first 30-minute film . The Wrong Trousers became the world- wide winner of over thirty awards . It also became the most successful animated film ever made .
Park and his colleagues at Aardman were experimenting with longer films , more complex plots and sub plots and would always take care to include plenty of background visual humour in a throwback to the filmmaking of the 1920s and 30s .
In 1995 they won their third Oscar winning film for " A Close Shave " and in 1996 Peter Lord was nominated for his 11-minute film Wat ' s Pig as well as Morph . 1998 Aardman won a BAFTA for " Stage Fright ". Nick Park was the key animator for it whilst Steve Box directed it . Also in 1998 “ Rex the Runt ” got many top international awards . 2005 " the Curse of the Were-Rabbit " was released and won lots of international awards including the academy award for best animated feature film and a BAFTA for Best British Film . In 2007 " Flushed Away " was nominated for a BAFTA . In 2008 " A Matter of Loaf and Death " was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Short Animated Film category and went on to win the BAFTA for Best Animated Short Film . Every Wallace and Gromit film has now won a BAFTA and they have all been nominated for an Oscar , with many winners .
