Jimmy

The Cat

No one knows about the first four or five years of Jimmy's life. He was a beautiful lemon and white cat who made it from the trenches to Victoria Station in London, England, with his wounded owner, an Australian who was on his way to the hospital.

As fate would have it, Mr. F. Conway, who was a cook in the navy, was at Victoria Station to meet some friends.

When Conway saw Jimmy, he struck up a conversation with the soldier.  When he learned that the soldier could not take Jimmy with him, he offered to adopt Jimmy.

After his leave, Conway was assigned to the HMS King George and took Jimmy with him.

The HMS King George was part of the Grand Fleet and the flagship for _Vice-Admiral Sr. M. Jerram. Soon after departure, they met the enemy and the guns started blasting. Jimmy was on deck and was wounded by shrapnel on his left ear. Conway was surprised that Jimmy did not seem to mind the noise of the guns. It took several weeks of care for his wound to heal, but once it did, Jimmy was once again on deck.
