With the assistance of La Selva keepers, Hinson provided substantial
care for the first six months of Lorenzo’s life.

t the beginning, he was fed goat’s milk every
two and a half hours around the clock. His
caretakers soon introduced solid foods like
lettuce, carrots and beans.

ecause newborn sloths are inclined to cling
to their mothers’ bellies, we made sure Lorenzo
had plenty of materials, like rope, to hang onto.
He loves “hugging” his stuffed animals and is
proving to be an exceptional climber.
