for Urban Stars finals

Jasmine Therese Henry – singer,
dancer and model – is busy preparing to barge into the
bigger leagues as she prepares for the upcoming Urban
Stars national competition grand finals in December.
By Marilie Bomediano
THE Year 5 student at Normanhurst Primary is not
really new to performing in public having started
singing and dancing at age 4.
“I feel excited and nervous at the same time
for the Urban Star Finals this December,” says Jasmine who admits to be a Leah Salonga and KC
Concepcion fan.
“I admire Filipino singer-actresses Leah Salonga and KC Concepcion. Leah because I love
how powerful her voice is. I love her songs since
she was little, her song in Les Miserables and
“Journey to the Past” which I love to sing.
“I also love KC Concepcion, because she is a
versatile actress-singer, a dancer and a model. At
the same time, she is United Nations Asian Ambassador for the Food Programme and does a lot of
charity works.”
Jasmine sang and posted two of her songs in
Youtube “Not like the Movies” and “It’s been a
While” which gained a following and enjoyed by
her 3,200 Instagram followers.
She is the latest exclusive talent of hip hop promoter Marco Selorio, founder and CEO of MAS
Presents and Hoopdreamz Enterprises.
“We believe that Jasmine has the makings of
a future superstar. She reminds me of two amazing Filipina-Australians that we have worked with
before, TV star Jasmin Curtis-Smith and YouTube
fashionista Sarah Ellen,” said Mr. Selorio.
Jasmine considers ‘Tito Marco’ and the Crossroads Music School in Parramatta as her most important mentors.
Jasmine is from Parramatta, the daughter of
Josephine “Pin” Montemayor from Bacolod City.
Pin migrated to Australia in 2000. Pin works as a
government community worker.
Jasmine showed interest in performing at a
very early age.
“It all started when she joined the Mr. and
Miss Corregidor 2008 Quest at the Corregidor Entertainment Centre in 2008. Since then, she always
wanted to be in front of the cameras,” mum relates.
“In 2011, she was invited to sing at a concert in
Bowmans Hall, Blacktown which was her first big
exposure before a big crowd.
“She also goes to Epping Nursing Home every
year to sing. She sings Christian songs to entertain
them and pray with the elderly.”
Jasmine has been a member of the school
choir for three years. .Jasmine was also an IKON
Models in 2013. She has been cast in the Pet Model Oz Puppy shoot next month.
Her dream to have her own CDs will soon materialise as she is scheduled to record with some renowned artists by January 2015.
