CELEBRATING THE 116TH PHILIPPIN
A time for patriotism…
THE Philippine flag was hoisted throughout last month at separate
venues around the state in activities organised by different FilipinoAustralian organisations and city councils commemorating the 116th
Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence.
INDEPENDENCE Day balls
were also held on separate dates
by the umbrella organisations
of Fil-Aussie groups such as the
Philippine Community Council
of NSW and the Alliance of Philippine Community Organisations. Federal and state government officials, MPs, heads from
several city councils and other
dignitaries joined reps from the
Philippine Consulate General
and the Fil-Aussie community
to mark the occasion.
The Independence Day observance was followed by another significant occasion – the
commemoration of the birth of
the Philippine national hero, Dr.
Jose Rizal – where community organisations laid wreaths at
special Rizal monuments in the
state, notably the Rizal Park in
Campbelltown and at the Rizal
