‘THOUGHTS THIS MONTH’
Street inverviews by Marilie Bomediano
Nemat Sokhadan (Ash?eld) I think changing the policy overnight is not good, but at the same time, I think that the Australian Government has unfair policies towards many immigrants. Maqsood Nagi (Yagoona) Under the UN Convention, Australia has to take refugees, I feel that the boat refugees are jumping the queue and violating the legal processes. Jun Relunia (Penrith) Australia is a signatory to International Refugees Convention. As long as there are genuine refugees then I have no objection in settling them here.
“What is your view with regards to asylum seekers who try to settle in Australia without proper visas?”
Fay Laserna (Claremont Meadows) I think that asylum seekers should not be allowed in Australia without proper visa, because allowing them entry without visas is discriminatory. against people from third world countries of this opportunity. Joana Vavasis (Petersham) Everybody wants to have a good life and have a go. I wouldn’t mind it as long as they asylum seekers have proper documentation. Bernie David (Castle Hill) If they are genuine refugees, with or without visas; if they are being persecuted in their homeland - why not? Australia has an obligation to give them asylum.
