Comfort is a state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint — the easing or alleviating a person ’ s feelings of grief or distress .
In life , there are many times when we require comfort . This need for comfort has been especially true during the last two years as we are all dealing with a global pandemic . Many of us have lost family , friends , and co-workers . The loss has heightened our need for alleviation of pain and grief . We seek comfort through many different paths .
Some find comfort in food : ice cream , chocolate , potato chips , red meat , etc . Excessive amounts of any of these can lead to diabetes , high blood pressure , gout , and other illnesses . Therefore , that initial feeling of comfort leads to long-term and sometimes fatal health issues .
Others find comfort in alcohol , cigarettes , or prescription drugs . Excessive use of these legal items can lead to the loss of a job because of a lack of dependability . Dependency may lead to a problem with the legal system in the form of a DUI ( driving under the influence ). An addiction to cigarettes may lead to terminal lung cancer . An addiction to prescription drugs can cause mental and physical concerns and could bring about criminal activity if your doctor refuses to continue writing the prescription .
Still , others find comfort in pornography or an extramarital affair . This form of comfort-seeking can lead to divorce and damage the family dynamic . You may feel an immediate sense of comfort in each way mentioned above , but it will soon fade . Therefore , you find yourself indulging again and again until you get to that detrimental place and ask yourself , how did I get here ?
I declare to you that comfort can be found that does not lead to destruction . It is not man-made ; 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 “ Praise be to the God and Father
