AMBEDKAR TO STAND 125ft TALL IN AMARAVATI C hief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for installation of 125 feet Ambedkar statue at Capital city Amaravati coinciding with the 125th birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar. The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a housing scheme at Jakkampudi village near here on Thursday. The State government would construct B.R. Ambedkar memorial, including the statue of the architect of the Constitution, on a 15-acre site in the State’s new capital Amaravati. The proposed memorial would comprise a park, convention centre, a Buddhist meditation hall and a library. The government proposes to construct six lakh houses across the State under the NTR Rural Housing Scheme and NTR Urban Housing Scheme for the poor. At a ceremonial function at A Convention Centre in Vijayawada, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for Ambedkar smriti vanam, memorial. On the occasion, Naidu said that the government was organising a yearlong celebrations in honour of Ambedkar. Sincere efforts were being made to spread the high ideals of Dr.Ambedkar among the people and reminded that for the TDP founder NT Rama Rao, Dr. Ambedkar had always been an inspiration. Dr Ambedkar’s views have been the principle guide and motivation for my government in framing and implementing the welfare schemes,” he said. 26 Stating that the SC and ST sub-plan was being implemented in the State effectively, the Chief Minister listed out various initiatives launched by the State government for the welfare of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs), he said. |CM garlanding B R Ambedkar’s statue in Vijayawada on the occasion of the latter’s 125th birth anniversary. “We want to develop Amaravati as a tourist attraction for Buddhists from across the globe. BR Ambedkar’s proposed statue and memorial park would further add glory to the capital city,” Naidu had announced in the Assembly. As part of the celebrations, various programmes, including Ambedkar Ideology Run, Ambedkar Sports Meet and other programmes for the entire year, were being organised. ‘We will translate all the works of Ambedkar into Telugu language,’ Naidu said. According to Naidu, the state will also hold anti-discrimination week, besides holding an international Buddhist convention.
