CONCEPT: The iPhone has made its mark as a
viable photographic tool for both hobbyist and
professional photographers. In this handson workshop, we gain an understanding of
the strengths and weaknesses of the iPhone
camera and how it can be used to convey our
photographic visions of the world around us.
We examine and practice solid composition
and image-making techniques that elevate
photography from snapshots to thoughtful and
personal imagery. We explore camera apps
and editing tools most conducive to traditional
photography.
CONCEPT: Photography is probably the most
powerful vehicle for sharing one’s singular
vision. This workshop is intended for those
interested in developing a cohesive body of
work with a distinct visual voice and content
that feels authentic and honest. The mysterious and intimate language of symbols,
surrogates, iconography and metaphors are
discussed as means to pursue a heightened
visual language. The class explores the personal versus the universal, the constructed
versus the found, and how to avoid the pitfalls
of stereotype and cliché.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: iPhone and select camera and editing apps.
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Digital photography, digital
printmaking and digital work flow using Adobe
Lightroom. Students should bring a strong sense
of humor and an intention to take risks.
The iPhone Photographer
