Rice, it's Nice

Rice is was one of the first ever grains farmed in China. An article from Professor K.E. Carr, of the Portland State University says that rice was boiled in water in ancient China just like we do today. There is archaeological evidence of rice that was farmed along the Yangtze River as early as 5000 BC. Rice in ancient China was drier and colder than the rice we eat today due to the climate.

Rice was cooked and used in many different ways in ancient China. The ancient Chinese used rice in food or to make wine out of it, which was also popular at the time and is still made today. Rice today and in ancient China is the most important grain to humans regarding nutrition and calorie intake. Today rice takes up ⅕ of our calories consumed in the world. People in modern day China cook rice either by boiling it or steaming which both use a method of intake of absorbing some time of water. In ancient China people boiled the rice in pots over fire. When the people in ancient China boiled the rice it was rapid and could be done in large quantities and was drained before served to the people to eat.
