Founded in 1885, Bates has been a long-time and
respected manufacturer of tactical and dress
footwear for the United States Armed Force s.
As such their materials prowess is considerable, and
the company says it has applied a unique
combination of materials and technology into the
design and development of its motorcycle footwear.
One such material is XRD Extreme Impact Protection
from Poron – a foam with what is described as a
unique reaction to stress or impact. At rest, the foam
is said to be soft and flexible to the touch, but upon
impact it hardens into a protective shell that
dissipates the impact force. XRD is said to be shown
to absorb up to 90% of energy at high speed
impact.
