If you were to go to Atlanta right now, Atlanta would be in shambles. This is all because General William T. Sherman has led a campaign through Atlanta to Savannah. This campaign has been the most destructive thing to ever hapen to the state of Georgia. After capturing the city of Atlanta and leaving it in shambles, Sherman had a big decision to make. He wante to keep going south and continue with the destruction but they would have no guranteed food supply. Sherman took a risk and continued south. On his was south, Sherman looted and destroyed everyhing in his path. This was all apart of his tactics to defeat the south. Sherman knew that if he cut off the south's economical funds, that he would be able to defeat them in the war. This is exactly what happened. Sherman destroyed every cotton field in his path and made it all the way to Savannah. Savannah surrendered without any opposition. Sherman said capturing the city of Savanna was a "Christmas gift" for President Lincoln.
ATLANTA IS gone!
WHo is abe?!
Abraham Lincoln was a strong willed individual who did whatever it took to preserve the liberty of the United States and to do what was right for his country. Lincoln did any and everything to do, even going to war with the half of the country that seceded. Lincoln believed in preserving the Union and keeping America together, even if it meant that he had to suspend "Habeaus Corpus", which are the rights of people not to be imprisoned without just cause. This allowed Lincoln to silence those against the war. This can be seen as controversial, but it helped preserved the United States we are a part of today. Lincoln also showed his willingness to do whatever had to be done by delivering the Emancipation Proclamation. This proclamation freed slaves in all of the states that rebelled, this went against the idea that the government would never have the power to stop slavery. This led to the United States we have right now, one where Martin Luther King Junior's Dream can be realized, something impossible without the Emancipation Proclamation. Abraham Lincoln was a great president who did everything he needed to so he could preserve our great country.
