DAY 1 Fly to Houston On arrival collect your car and drive to your hotel.
DAY 2 Houston
America’ s fourth largest city is a must-see with culturefilled neighbourhoods, galleries and attractions aplenty. Explore the historic Heights, known for its Victorian homes and quirky stories, stroll the Museum District or head to the fascinating Space Centre Houston( home to NASA’ s Mission Control) to discover the exciting future and remarkable past of USA’ s human spaceflight programme.
DAY 3 Houston / San Antonio
Perhaps fit in some shopping at the Galleria Mall before driving westwards to San Antonio( 197 miles).
DAYS 4! 5 San Antonio
This captivating city is rich in history, bursting with culture and booming with modern attractions and shopping opportunities, including the largest Mexican market in the USA. See the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Alamo with its interactive tours and exhibits, see San Fernando Cathedral or head to the Tower of the Americas. Four world-class theme parks deliver non-stop excitement for visitors of all ages, with everything from high-speed roller coasters to splash-worthy rides. In the evening feast on flavoursome Tex-Mex cuisine and soak up the nightlife with a stroll along the scenic River Walk.
DAY 6 San Antonio / Bandera
Before setting off, you may wish to visit another UNESCO World Heritage Site: the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, for an insight into the city’ s rich heritage. Alternatively, check out the spectacular Natural Bridge Caverns, which boast more than 10,000 different stalactitic formations. Your next destination is the Dixie Dude Ranch, which lies just outside Bandera, proclaimed as the Cowboy Capital of the World( 59 miles).
DAYS 7! 8 Bandera
Situated on 725 unspoiled acres, this working ranch maintains a truly authentic atmosphere with longhorn cattle, goats and horses raised by real rodeo cowboys. You’ ll find no shortage of things to do with two scenic horse rides included per day, plus there are hiking trails, a seasonal swimming pool, fishing and more. Look forward to family-style meals as well as barbecues and seasonal cowboy breakfasts served out on the range.
DAY 9 Bandera / Austin
Continue your journey with a short drive to Austin, the Live Music Capital of the World( 127 miles).
DAY 10 Austin
Along with over 250 live music venues and a buzzing arts scene, Austin is home to a ballet, world-class museums, great shopping and beautiful outdoor spaces. Spend the morning paddling on Lady Bird Lake then pop into the celebrated History Museum; see the impressive State Capitol or the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum. Explore also Austin’ s diverse entertainment districts, from Downtown to Sixth Street and Red River, with its trendy shops, restaurants and music hotspots.
DAY 11 Austin / Fort Worth
Drive north through the heart of the Lone Star State to Fort Worth, a city known for Texan hospitality and a dozen remarkable districts chock full of cultural experiences( 190 miles).
DAY 12 Fort Worth
A must-do is to stroll the historic western stockyards, which features the world’ s only twice-daily cattle drive of Texas Longhorns. Downtown Fort Worth also offers a variety of shopping, dining, live music and theatre in the Sundance Square district, while there are world-class museums in the Cultural District and a stunning Botanic Garden. Alternatively, head to neighbouring Dallas to tour the home of the Dallas Cowboys, visit the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza and see the John F Kennedy Memorial.
DAY 13 Fort Worth / Dallas
Drive to Dallas( 33 miles) and return your car at the airport where the tour concludes with your onward journey.
