How Starlink Internet Will Change Where and How We Work

All the tools are available for a small business to enable their team to work from anywhere : remote access to office PCs , phone systems that work over the internet , Microsoft Teams to get instant access to colleagues , files to stay organized , and dual-factor authentication and constant monitoring to deter cyberattacks while connecting remotely . But all of this means nothing if you do not have reliable high-speed internet access to power these tools , access which so many areas of the United States do not currently have .

I have a home in upstate New York where I have to rely on satellite internet . I have been able to get by with satellite for a few years now . Still , when everyone started working remotely back in April and the demands for video conferencing increased , the weakness of satellite internet speeds was exposed . That ’ s why I have been paying close attention to the news about Starlink .
Starlink will provide high-speed internet via low-orbiting satellites , which boasts speeds so close to cable internet that there should be no noticeable difference . They expect to have near-global coverage by the end of 2021 , which will provide even more flexibility as to where people can work .
I hope that this will help the cause of achieving and maintaining a work-life balance for many . Many people have been tied to offices in cities and have been missing out on the peace that can come from spending more time closer to nature . It is not a matter of if this will happen ; it is a matter of when . When you are no longer tethered to be in one place all the time for work , where will you go ?
