were told that they were allowed to attack
the staff—this provoked happiness and
excitement. Later on, cadets began to patrol; unfortunately the weather took a turn
for the worse—resulting in the greens exercise being terminated.
Cadets went
back to the base, had a shower, then congregated for the following day’s briefing.
The next day was probably the best day
for the cadets, as they all went to the
beach after breakfast and enjoyed a great
day out; playing in the water and chilling
on the beach. Some of the cadets also
went on rides and went shopping for souvenirs. When they got back, the cadets
had showers and got ready for tea. After
tea, cadets sat around outside to socialize.
The day of the night exercise arose. The
morning was great as everyone went Scuba Diving and enjoyed the opportunity
they had been given. After Scuba Diving,
the cadets came back into camp and did
survival training which included how to
make a fire and what shelters were suitable for different situations.
Then after
lunch, came the ‘Night Exercise’. All cadets
packed their day sacks with their ration
packs, mess tins and spare greens and
together set off on the hour long walk to
the top of the hill. After reaching the destination, cadets set up their shelters in their
designated spot; after this cadets met up
at the meeting area with their mess tins
and ration packs. Cadets sat around and
watched as the boss tore off the dead
deer’s fur (which was possibly the best
experience), cadets took part in helping.
After the deer was ‘de-furred’ it was cut up
and placed on the fire to cook. The evening consisted of ration packs and deer
(most cadets asked for more!). Cadets
The following morning, cadets awoke feeling tired; but got ready and set off back up
the hill to restart the exercise. After breakfast, cadets began patrolling. The groups
set off to their locations and waited in position for the perfect moment to attack the
staff. When the time arrived, cadets made
their move; and all had great fun. The
attack ended in laughter. Cadets then
went to get ready for lunch. The break
between lunch and dinner was used mainly
for relaxing and ‘recharging’ for the activity after dinner.
Day 7 tested the cadets’ minds when they
had to perform initiative exercises in their
groups. After lunch it was time to test the
rafts on the water! Many rafts fell apart
which led to cadets getting very wet. Water fights and staff thrown into the lake,
were just some of the fun that was had by
all. Everyone enjoyed the last night together with a BBQ.
The last day saw everyone packing bags
and cleaning up, after breakfast the paper
plate awards took place. We then bid a
farewell to the Isle of Wight as we headed
to the ferry in the minibus. ?
After dinner, cadets headed off to bowling;
which was superb!
The following day, was a day filled of fun
activities; some of these were water sports
and shooting. First groups A and B went
shooting while groups C and D experienced
water sports; which involved surfing. Even
though some cadets had achy feet, we all
agreed that it was amazing!
After lunch, groups A and B had a go at
raft building, while groups C and D experienced shooting.
