Coming back down the hill was much more fun and we
were back at the cycle shop in no time. We gave our
bikes to the other group and were allowed an hour to
go shopping.
When we got back to the block we put our clothes in
the drying room and dived for the shower.
Sunday nights brief was about how things can go
wrong when on a mountain. We were taught what to
in an emergency along with basic country code in
preparation for our navigational exercise.
The exercise on Monday was in Dyffyn. Again we
were divide into three groups and each group was
assigned a member of staff, 3 maps, 3 compasses
and three separate routes which we set out on. All of
the groups made it back with only slight confusion due
to the maps being out of date. The day was tiring but
fun and the weather was really good.
On Tuesday we were divided into two groups. One
group was off to do canoeing and kayaking whilst the
other was off to a rock face called Tremadog Crag.
My group was the climbing group. We packed our
rucksacks with equipment and got on the mini bus
were we drove to the bottom of the hill. There was a
short but steep walk to the rock face. When we
reached it we put on our climbing shoes, harnesses
and helmets and were given a safety brief.
Even though some people were nervous most people
manage to face their fear and succeed in both abseiling and climbing to the top. The day taught us how to
belay and different techniques when climbing.
Wednesday we spent the day at the
center. We were divide into three
groups. One group had a talk about
how to prepare for something like
‘Duke of Edinburgh’. Another group
did team building activities and the
third group did Jacobs ladder. The
groups rotated around throughout
the day. The day was a lot of fun
and it was really sunny. By the end
of the day a lot of people had a good tan with even
better tan lines.
Thursday was much like Tuesday except the groups
swapped over. The canoeing and kayaking was
great fun and the days weather was perfect. We all
enjoyed doing the challenges like playing hide and
seek in the lake or running across all the kayaks. But
most of all I think everyone enoyed falling in the water as it was a nice was of cooling down.
By the time we got back to the accommodation our
tans were even worse with distinct lines were our wet
suits had been. We washed and put away the equipment and jumped in the showers. In the evening we
were given the chance to do the leap of faith and
most of us took up the challenge.
Friday, the people who hadn’t been already, went
