Let it Snow

A collaboration by three popular best-selling authors (John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle), this cleverly written story based at Christmas time is all about love, snow, fate, Starbucks, teacup pigs, radical haircuts, Christmas collectables and Waffle Houses. It follows the stories of three people struggling through Christmas, as their lives intersect with others and a few Christmas miracles come true. The last section of this book is my favourite as it brings together all the plot lines and wraps them up with a big bow, this story is so cleverly crafted I want to bow down to the three authors who came up with it. A great story for cold days where all you want to do is snuggle up inside with mugs of tea and coffee, a thick jumper, slippers and a fluffy blanket.

Life of Pi

The Life if Pi is an awe inspiring novel, a tale of adventure, sacrifice, determination, and a Bengal Tiger. It follows (as the title subtly suggests haha) the Life of Pi, a boy from India who with his family was trying to get to Canada to start over in a new environment. There are many plot twists and surprises along the way, and as I don’t want to give away all the juicy secrets hidden in the pages of this book I’ll keep this brief. This book has also recently been made into a movie which if you haven’t watched it yet I highly recommend it, especially if you like meerkats. Though, the language is this book is often hard to understand, but it is definitely worth reading If you can put up with the language.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

Short stories originally written for newspapers by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the 1890’s, these crime classics have been used as inspiration for many popular films, movies and TV shows in recent years, such as the American show Elementary and the British show Sherlock (both of which I also highly recommend watching). Cleverly written, these stories show small glimpses of Britain and its culture back in the 1890’s with references to dog carts and garrets. Based on Sherlock Holmes, a British detective, Sherlock gives help to people far and wide with an assortment of cases and problems that even the police are unable to solve, with his trusting associate and one friend John Watson, who is an ex army doctor. Though, the language is rich and for some can be hard to understand and concentrate on, but if you want to get back to the source of inspiration of Sherlock, Elementary and many other films and TV shows, then these are a great way to get a better understanding of the world famous detective.

Beautiful Creatures

Beautiful Creatures, by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, is a fantasy teen novel based around one of the main characters, Ethan. Ethan is 16 and lives in a very small town called Gaitlan, where nothing really ever happens, until a new girl comes to town. Lena changes everything Ethan knows or thought he knew, and in the process they start a pretty mixed up relationship. This book contains a lot of romance, and fantasy, and has a great plot line and thick descriptions, and is well worth reading. And what else is so fabulous about this book? Having another three books to read after you finish the first one! That’s right, this book is a part of the Caster Chronicles series.
