Below I have reviewed a bunch of different and unique books that I have read recently, from classics to books so popular they are being turned into movies. I hope you find a book that you like!
The Divergent Trilogy
I’ve just finished reading these three books, the first of which is currently being made into a movie which comes out this month!! With a dystopian storyline, action, war and romance, the books get better and better as they go along the trilogy and as more of the truth is revealed. The characters are relatable, the descriptions make you feel like you’re there and the plot twists are upsetting and intense as they often should be. Though, if you squirm at the words or descriptions of needle, blood or death, you may not enjoy the level of description used in these books as much as others.

Anything written by Agatha Christie
Agatha Christie was a world famous bestselling crime author, who has sold the third most number of novels after William Shakespeare and the Bible. Over her lifetime (1890 – 1976), Christie produced 82 crime novels, and was dubbed the ‘Queen of Crime’. I have not read all of her novels, but the ones that I have read so far are superbly, descriptively written with very clever plots that more often than not leave you baffled. In some of her novels, she uses detectives such as Miss Marple and Poirot to solve or aid in solving the crimes, with deduction techniques similar to that of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. My personal favourites of her work include ‘Death on the Nile’ and ‘They came to Baghdad’.

The Secret Garden
A very famous classic novel written by Frances Hodgson Burnett, this adorable story of a young girl called Mary follows her journey as she is moved from her home in India to live with her uncle in England, due to a Cholera outbreak in her Indian home which killed everyone but Mary. It also follows the many good changes that Mary makes as she moves to England, from being sickly and foul tempered to much more pleasant and fit. What I love most about this book is the descriptive way in which it is written, and also how young Mary adapts to the new environment around her, as she moved to a very bleak but beautiful place. This story is inspiring, but again, due to the time it was written, the language is often confusing, but it is most definitely worth the read.
