Fifty-five juniors and seniors are National Honor Society members – roughly 75 percent of the eligible student body. Students in the Class of 2014 were awarded over $500,000 in academic scholarships and received the following awards and distinctions: National Hispanic Program Scholar Finalist, National Merit Finalist, and National Merit Scholar Winner. In the 2014-2015 school year, Alpine High placed first at the regional UIL meet for Academics and is the UIL 2015 Academic Champions. In 2014, AHS advanced to National competition in the U.S. History Fair. Students attend classes based upon their chosen graduation plan. Core courses in English, Math, Science and Social Studies are supplemented with electives that range from Music and Art, to Athletics, Robotics and a variety of CTE courses. Students may choose to learn a trade, such as Agriculture or Welding, in which an AWS D1 Certification can be earned. In 2014, AHS received perfect scores at the SkillsUSA annual welding competition, enabling them to advance to state competition. Advanced Placement classes in English, Spanish, Physics and Calculus are offered. Last year, 24 students took AP exams; 83% scored 3 or higher. Eligible juniors and seniors earn college offers students a wellbalanced, challenging and supportive educational environment that encourages them to take responsibility and become successful, productive lifelong learners. In 2014, the Texas Education Agency awarded Alpine High School a Met Standard accountability rating and the Number One spot in the Distinction Designation Top 25 Percent: Closing Performance Gaps. In 2011, the school received the U.S. Department of Education’s National Blue Ribbon Award.
