What types of candies are your favorites? Is it reeses or m&ms, twix or snickers, kit kats or hershey's, skittles or starburst, gummy bears or gummyworms? There are a variety of candies that are always available for you to buy at the store. Eating candy once in a while is okay but what happens if you eat too much? Candies are high in sugars and high in fats and are a type of food that contains no nutritional value. Candies are also filled with calories that make you gain weight at a higher rate. Candy is not the only source of sugar, but sugar also comes from eating fast foods, desserts, and soft drinks. According to the dietary guidelines of 2010 16 percent of the calories in the American diet is made up of sugar. Consuming excess sugars in your diet contributes to obesity. The excess sugars that are consumed are converted to fat and usually are stored around your waist or your thighs. Candy plays a major role in contributing to having high cholesterol which could lead to high blood pressure, heart disease or stroke? It also raises your blood sugar levels which could lead to type 1 or type 2 diabetes. One of the most important effects of consuming excess sugars is that it contributes to the weakening of your immune system. It is very important for your immune system to be in good condition so that it will have enough energy to fight off diseases, bacteria, or viruses? No one wants to be sick right? By eating simple sugars which can be found in candies, sodas or packaged treats will lead to decreasing the ability of your white blood cells to engulf bacteria cells. By eating or drinking about 100 grams of sugar reduces the ability of white blood cells to kill bacteria by 40%. Eating too much sugar is dangerous to the health. Consuming sugared foods once in a while is okay, but everyday cannot be like halloween and you cannot be devouring candy everyday. Try to eat sugars in moderation. Young teens and adolescents should start now by eating less sugar everyday to decrease the chances of diabetes or having high cholesterol.
