o Reporter’s Notebook: This is a routine for separating facts and feelings. Read a story
with your child and use the thinking routine to separate the facts of the story and the
feelings of the characters. What are the facts? What the story told us? What are the
character’s thoughts and feelings? At the end ask your child what questions this story
might bring to his/her mind?
o Headline: This is a routine for capturing essence. After reading a story encourage your
child to provide a title that best describes how she/he perceives the meaning. Don’t
forget that each reader’s respond to a text is unique. Allow them to share their unique
meaning.
Enjoy and share with us your experiences!!!
