Iris Delphine Murphy, a talented artist, daughter of drummer Michael Murphy, took a few minutes to answer a few of Johnny Spice’s questions about what it feels like to have a song on this underrated classic feels like. How does it feel to have a song named after you? Really cool, it’s weird because I totally forget about it over the past few years. The story my parents always told me was that my dad wasn't feeling it with the drumming. The song was really experimental for the time and pushed him out of his comfort zone. He said that Eric and Dave helped him by thinking of his unborn child as inspiration, and it really uplifted the mood. It ended up being what my dad needed to play it. When were you first made aware of that fact? I think my parents told me when I was around 8. Have your feelings about it changed over the years? I actually didn’t think that much of it, as it had no lyrics, and because I was 8. But recently I listened to it again and realized how profound it is. When was the last time you heard the song? The other week to prepare for this interview Have other people asked you about it over the years? Not really, honestly I forgot about it until now. Where can the readers at home check out your art? I have a website irisdelphinemurphy.com that shows my weaving and other textiles. Hopefully soon I’ll put the shoes I make up! Thanks Iris.
