Transgenic foods are those that include in their composition some ingredient that comes from an organism that has been incorporated by genetic techniques, a gene of another species. Thanks to modern biotechnology, a gene can be transferred from one organism to another to give it a special quality that it lacks, so that transgenic plants can withstand pests, better resist herbicides and droughts, etc. .... In the case of Europe, no transgenic modalities are allowed, since only those that can be cultivated and later commercialized are. Since the appearance of transgenic foods have been the subject of much controversy. There are people who are in their favor and others who are completely against the production of these foods. For example, Juan Felipe Carrasco, head of the campaign against transgenics Greenpeace, says that the industrial agriculture that is currently sold as "food for all humanity" is causing irreversible damage, because he says that it is not true that science this in favor of said foods, pointing out that people who are against such foods are not against the science of the future, but are against the release of transgenic to the environment. On the other hand, Francisco García Olmedo, professor of Molecular Biochemistry at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, says the opposite, mentioning that transgenics are the biggest innovation in food production in the last 25 years, and that there has not been a single incident in human health or in the environment. Why were transgenic foods created? Proponents of this practice believe that genetic modification is intended to achieve much more resistant foods with better nutritional qualities that are more beneficial to humans. That is to say, we can find more maize resistant to insects, tomatoes that last longer in the refrigerator without getting lost, rice rich in vitamin A, crops more resistant to droughts, crops that survive insecticides and herbicides, coffee without caffeine , etc.… In short, we can say that the purpose or goal with which transgenic foods were made was to make food more resistant, longer lasting, more nutritious and in less time. List of transgenic foods Previously I commented on some of the transgenic foods that we can consume, but we will see more examples and explain them in detail: • Transgenic Soy: Changes that are made from genes extracted from bacterial herbicides are introduced into soybean seeds. When it is modified, it is much more resistant to glyphosates and herbicides.  7
