"He's a Wild Bird and i think he makes clothes Fly" - Isabella Blow (McQueen and I, 2011. Documentary)
Isabella Blow was the 'it' Girl and had an eye for tallent. Blow took an interest in McQueen and told him to use his middle name, Alexander, as she thought it would have a great impact and reminded her of Alexander the Great.
From 1996 - 2001 Mcqueen was the chief designer of Givenchy, but in 2000 Gucci brought the label Alexander Mcqueen and gave McQueen as much creative freedom he wanted. Gucci wanted to transform his brand into a global sensation. By 2009, the dream of 'Alexander McQueen' was in full motion, the brand was global in places such as Milan, LA, Beijing and Toyko.
