WELCOME
We have made it through the closest to “ Normal ” summer season we have had in several years ; we held our annual Selman Memorial Golf Tournament and a convention in Juneau this year and saw the long-awaited Title 04 rewrite pass out of the legislature . It ’ s already been quite a year as we head into the shorter winter days .
I want to extend my appreciation and say a big thank you to all of you who have participated in our events . I know it ’ s tough to break away from the responsibilities of our establishments , especially with the workforce , or lack of one , which most of us have
“ been struggling with this year but taking that moment to participate helps brings more of the values that CHARR provides to you into your business . This year ’ s convention in Juneau had a great round of speakers and good attendance from licensees all over the state , creating an environment that lends itself to sharing information vital to our businesses and the industry .
THE WINTER SEASON IS AN EXCELLENT TIME TO STEP BACK AND TAKE A BREATH ,
In the coming months , Statewide CHARR will be increasing workforce development and training efforts while getting the word out about the Title 04 rewrite and working on the regulation that goes along with such a rewrite . Keep an eye on your email for the Hospitality Hotspot newsletter , Breaking News Emails , announcements for Membership Zoom Calls , and Quarterly Affiliate Zooms to stay up to date on new information and to see where CHARR is focusing attention while looking out for the industry .
Letter from the Chairman
BY PAUL THOMAS | CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD
Here Shorter ' s to Days Summer , Longer Nights
ENJOY THE FRUITS OF YOUR HARD WORK FROM THE BUSY SUMMER SEASON THAT HAS PASSED , AND PREPARE FOR THE NEXT BUSY SEASON THAT IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER .
With the passing of Title 04 through the legislature and as the new regulation is adopted , we should all plan on seeing a return to more regularly scheduled compliance checks from Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office ( AMCO ) enforcement staff . As we get back into these checks , expect a change in the mindset . Under the new director , Joan Wilson , and even the prior director , Glen Klinkhart , the path of cooperation and education has become more of a priority rather than the old enforcement model many of us had problems with . Proper enforcement is a good thing for the industry . Generally , all licensees are good operators doing their best to run good operations and follow the rules . The new style of enforcement that Director Wilson advocates will build on those good operators educating first when possible but with the power to act when a bad operator is found that could cause a black eye for the whole industry . As things slow down and the nights get longer , this is a good time to double-check that you and all your staff ’ s TAP cards are up-to-date and that all the required signage is displayed correctly so that if AMCO does stop by , they will have nothing to do but compliment your operation and thank you for a job well done .
“
The winter season is an excellent time to step back and take a breath , enjoy the fruits of your hard work from the busy summer season that has passed , and prepare for the next busy season that is just around the corner . I want to take this time to wish you all a wonderful holiday season . Thank you for all you do to keep our industry humming along every day .
