So whoever emigrated for Allah and His Messenger, his emigration will be for Allah and His Messenger; and whoever emigrated for worldly benefits or for a woman to marry, his emigration would be for what he emigrated for". [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. Kids Corner - Meet Makiyah Mashaa’Allah la hawla wa la quwaata illa billah Makiyah is a 7th grader at A.M.Y Northwest ( Academy for the Middle Years ) in Philadelphia, PA. A.M.Y Northwest is an Academic based school, where you have to interview, and be accepted to attend. You have to have exceptional grades, exceptional behavior, a positive outlook on life, and be involved in your community. She was also promoted one grade, Alhamdulillah. Makiyah received 3 Scholarships in the last 2 years. From Ben Carson ( first doctor to successfully split Siamese twins), the Bill Gates Millennium Fund, and the Langston Hughes Fund for Poetry. She's the President of the National Honor Society Chapter at her school, and she's in the program for the Mentally Gifted. She tutors at her school, as well as on weekends. She also volunteers tutoring math and reading at a local library. In her spare time, Makiyah loves reading books. She enjoys cooking and helping her mother at home. Not only does she complete her homework, she helps her younger sister with her homework as well. While excelling academically she manages to stay abreast with her Islamic studies. With all the hard work and effort she puts forth, she still sets time aside for some much needed and well deserved sleep. Makiyah is indeed an inspiration for us as parents as well as her peers. With Allah lies all success. We encourage Makiyah as well as others, young and old, to seek knowledge until there comes a day when you can seek it no more. Be diligent in your studies and never give up. We hope that Makiyah continues to strive and reach for her goals. May Allah accept her good deeds, aid her in her affairs, and grant her success in this life and in the hereafter, Ameen.
