A363 Lady Spencer’s End of Bed A finely hand carved mahogany long stool, the rectangular upholstered seat, above serpentine arched and fluted rails centred by palm flower carved beaded reserves, on fluted and beaded cabriole legs each headed by a palm-leaf cartouche and with scrolled feet. Inspired by the original at Althorp by James ‘Athenian’ Stuart. Inspired by the original Sabicu and Limewood stool at Althorp, designed by James ‘Athenian’ Stuart for Spencer House and executed by John Gordon between 1758 and 1765. As part of a large suite of seat furniture including sofas, chairs, armchairs and stools in various sizes. The originals were executed in hardwood finishes and gilt finishes.
