Destructive Criticism
P
oints out faults and directly attacks a person. The aim is to show that the
person or the object has no worth or validity. No practical advice or
consideration is given to the person. It is toxic. It seeks to tear down and harm.
By and large, it should be ignored.
People who criticize destructively don't have
your well-being in mind. They just decide to say
hateful things. They do not have a vested interest in
your growth. This is why internet comments are
often so vile. They come from anonymous naysayers
who have no intention or possibility of
knowing you on a personal level.
For example:
“You are not trying hard enough!”
“You won't get anywhere with that attitude!”
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE?
Accepting every criticism you receive is unhealthy- just
as unhealthy as ignoring every criticism you receive. To
grow and mature in your craft, you must learn to
differentiate the criticisms that come from those who
want to see you succeed, and those who don't care one
way or the other.
