Gnani’s Scientific Solutions T hat which is result oriented is called religion (dharma). That which does not bring forth any result is not religion at all (adharma). What should be the result? Religion decreases one’s kashayas (inner weaknesses such as anger, greed, deceit, and pride). They become lighter, lesser and ultimately they disappear. A person’s inner energy and bliss increases once these kashays start to diminish. One becomes aware of the amazing inner strength. Aha! Where did it 08 | December 2015 come from? That resultant effect is called dharma (religion). Blind following of religious practices and rituals will not bring-forth the result. When one does not have any artadhyan (adverse internal meditation that hurts the self) or raudradhyan (adverse internal meditation that hurts others) he is said to have attained essence of religion (dharmasaar). A person can eat, drink, go out, do business or anything else, but as long as he has no resultant artadhyan or raudradhyan, it is considered to have achieved dharmasaar. Even if they have decreased to an extent, then we may accept he is on the right path or religion (dharma). However, if they have not decreased at all, and on the contrary occur more frequently, it would not be correct to say that he is in religion, regardless of faith he believes, be it Jain or Vaishnav. If you do not learn anything else in worldly life it does not matter, but learning to adjust, is a necessity. Taking a
