Glimpses of World Religions C hristianity is the world’s largest religion. The central tenet of Christianity is the belief in Jesus as the son of God and as the Messiah, the savior of humanity. Founder: Jesus Christ Place of origin: Jerusalem, Israel Holy scripture: Bible Place of worship: Church Major festivals: Christmas, Good Friday, Ester Sunday. Fundamental Belief: The golden rule of Christianity is to respect the people around them, to help those in need and to treat others as they themselves would want to be treated. Pilgrimages: Jerusalem, Vatican City, Rome Afterlife Belief: Existence of Heaven & Hell is their believed destinations afterlife. Christianity J udaism is one of the oldest monotheistic religions and was founded over 3500 years ago in the Middle East. Founder: Abraham Place of origin: Israel and Palestinian territories Holy scripture: Torah Place of worship: Synagogue Major Festivals: Rosh Hashanah, Pesach, Yom kippur Fundamental Belief: One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself. This concept describes a “reciprocal” relationship amongst all men that defines them as equals.
