PRESENTING ERICA LAUREN RUBIN LIPP AS CANTOR AND TEACHER IN ISRAEL
Presented by Cantor Deborah Katchko-Gray
My beloved cousin, Cantor Leopold Szneer of blessed memory taught me that to be a good cantor, one needs to be a NER, a light to others. Consisting of two Hebrew letters; Nun stands for neshamah-soul and Reish stands for ruah-spirit. If you have a good soul and a lively spirit, you will be a light to others and be a great cantor.
It is with certainty that I can say Erica Lauren Rubin Lipp is a great light, a wonderful cantor, a beautiful soul and a loving spirit. A NER in our world.
We met at a Women Cantors’ Conference and Erica asked if she could study with me. I was delighted to begin our private studies, and even more honored when she asked if she could do her master’ s thesis about me. Our time together has been a wonderful adventure of study, song, spirit and discovery.
As life unfolds, it has been a joy to be part of her journey. Her musical gifts are tremendous and her heart matches that intensity. Her busy life includes raising a family, completing her studies as a cantor, and working full time as a cantor at Congregation L’ Dor V’ Dor in Oyster Bay, NY.
Generation to Generation is a fitting name for the synagogue she enhances with her masterful gorgeous voice and enthusiastic love for Jewish life. Erica comes from a musical family and is a cousin of the renowned Cantor Pierre Pinchik, a Golden Age of Hazzanut colleague of my grandfather, Cantor Adolph Katchko. We were in sync with this shared history from the beginning! A love of tradition and a desire to bring the congregation together in song is what makes Erica unique. Erica is deeply moved by the stories of cantors who came before her in creating her own path forward. She is a bright light, a ner to the world.
It is an honor to present Cantor Erica Lauren Rubin Lipp as cantor today.
