CITATION FIRM HGA PROJECT EL CAMINO FUNDAMENTAL HIGH SCHOOL CENTER FOR THE ARTS LOCATION Sacramento, California El Camino Fundamental High School has a tradition for excellence in music and drama. Lacking a performing arts center on its campus, and with more than 50 percent of students at El Camino having historically enrolled in the performing arts, this project has been a dream for decades. This center was the very first to be delivered using a progressive design-build methodology within the school district. HGA partnered with McCarthy Building Companies, the San Juan Unified School District and the Vanir Construction Management team to design, develop and construct the new 14,400-square-foot state-of-the-art venue. The building includes an auditorium with 500 fixed seats and 100 portable seats in the orchestra area, a merchandise and ticket booth area, a lobby and exhibit hall, restrooms, dressing rooms, and necessary supporting elements. Included in the project is an adjacent parking lot and an outdoor amphitheater. JURY’S COMMENTS “Appreciate the clarity of massing and organization and well-executed clear concept. The auditorium is restrained and utilizes a simple material palette.” • PHOTO BY CHAD DAVIES SPECIAL PROMOTIONAL SUPPLEMENT Go to aiacv.org/exparch Go to to register 35
