PROJECT
UC DAVIS ANN E. PITZER CENTER CLASSROOM AND RECITAL HALL
LOCATION
Davis, California
This state-of-the-art music recital hall and classroom center
serves UC Davis’ Department of Music. Located at the east
edge of campus, the 17,500-square-foot building is a destination
for students and music patrons in the community. The
399-seat recital hall is an ideal venue for the presentation of
music with the ability to acoustically tune the space so that
it’s tailored to match a wide range of performances. The hall
is named for a devoted UC Davis alumna and supporter of
the arts and education whose posthumous donation made
this project a reality. The center has become a source of
campus pride, a technologically advanced and sustainable
facility for music students, an important recruiting tool for
new music students and faculty, and a new venue for public
performances. The project’s success reflects the collaboration
between the design-build team, music department faculty
and staff, and the university’s Design and Construction
Management facilities department.
JURY’S COMMENTS
“An inviting campus building for an introverted program. The
theater has a sophisticated and restrained use of materials.” •
