CURRENT CAREERS
By Kate Muldowney
(Communications &
Engagement Coordinator )
In the spirit of keeping ourselves on our toes,
and with the promise of delivering AGSM
students a Careers Month that gets bigger
and better each year – 2016 has been a huge
testament to this.
I’ve been lucky enough to work across different
key teams whilst at the AGSM, spending
years listening to students over the phone,
communicating via email, working on exciting
projects and networking at events. Being in
Careers means I am privileged to witness
a student’s lifecycle come full circle. Our
engagement with industries and employers,
both established and new, is our driving force
in this space.
This year we’ve seen our EMBA & MBAX
students travel from interstate to attend various
presentations across our exciting lineup –
which has evolved to accommodate recent
trends and functions.
We instigated a consulting week shake-up, with
new Marketing and Innovation consulting firms
joining us on campus to disrupt our audience’s
way of thinking about digital innovation and
delivery.
We networked over breakfast with Australia’s
top banks, which left our brains buzzing after
listening to prolific panellists discussing the
“golden opportunity” for MBA’s to be joining the
banking industry post-GFC and then changed
things up completely, spending the afternoon
at Tank Stream Labs and hearing from some
of Sydney’s most fearless and resilient
entrepreneurs.
Now more than ever, we are seeing a shift in
how companies are recruiting. It is no longer
solely about the perfect candidate for a specific
role – employers are looking for the perfect
culture fit, someone with a growth mindset who
can adapt easily to change. Because of this,
we have initiated our Expression of Interest
talent pipeline, whereby students can put
forward their individualised career profile that
is presented to recruiters in order to build long
term, sustainable engagement.
