The next generation of managers needs to understand the role that digital plays in an accelerating business world. Organisations are inundated with data. Understanding data and the ways it can be analysed and used to help guide decision making is becoming a critical skill. This course introduces the fundamentals of technology used by contemporary organisations to develop digital products. It also introduces key elements of agile development and the role of the product manager in working with technical teams to deliver on a digital strategy. As part of the course, you’ll work together in a small team to develop a digital product strategy for an organisation. This session introduces key principles in data analytics and provides hands on experience in using analytics tools to derive business insights. The emphasis is on managing and sourcing data, the analytic process and the role of leadership in supporting the organisational and cultural change associated with the transformation to becoming a data-driven organisation. As part of the business analytics process you will build predictive models. Whether you’re launching a new venture or seeking to turnaround an established business, the ability to identify and respond to new opportunities is becoming a key management skill. Using the lean start up methodology, students will develop skills around identifying new market opportunities, developing a minimum viable product, assessing product market fit and identifying business models to scale the new venture. You’ll have the opportunity to pitch your venture to a panel of entrepreneurs and professional investors.
