BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT
• Created by three sisters: Alicica Garza, Opal Tometi, and Patrisse Cullors. The Black Lives Matter movement worked for the validity of black life. They wanted to build a black liberation movement that surpasses the killings of black people by authority and vigilantes. They call blacks to love and support one another while contributing to the black community and society. The ultimate fight against black racism in America. The BLM movement was mostly a campaign and protest against violence and systematic racism against African Americans. They strive to broaden the issue of police brutality, racial profiling, and distinguished racial inequality in the U.S justice system.

What Events Influenced the Movement?
• BLM was influenced by many events like the 2012 murder of Trayvon Martin and acquittal of George Zimmerman. After that incidence, the hashtag #blacklivesmatter sparked the social media world and the movement was born. Fast-forward two years later, hundreds of unarmed African- American people were killed by the police. August 9th, 2014, Michael Brown was killed by police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, MO. Brown was unarmed during the altercation. Brown’s death and acquittal of Officer Wilson shook Ferguson and the nation. Riots and angry mobs formed and destroyed the town. The chaos created a spot in history next to the Watts riot of 1965 and the Rodney King riot of 1991. The BLM movement influenced and led thousands of African Americans and others hurt by the verdict into a national protest and non-violent demonstrations.
