The government , perhaps , is harbouring justifiable displeasure considering the fact that that top local brands like PZ Cussons , popular telecommunications giant MTN , beverage giant Chivita , Nigeria breweries , and Tecno . PZ Cussons is in partnership with Manchester City , Chivita Limited signed a multi-year sponsorship deal with Manchester United in 2015 , Tecno brand is the Official Tablet and Handset Partner of Manchester City while the Nigerian Breweries has an incredible partnership with five leading football clubs in Europe . The clubs are Manchester City , Arsenal , Real Madrid , PSG and Juventus .
The government also supposes that this companies are not being patriotic enough . This largely moral appeal expects that sponsoring the local league would be a good way of being grateful for all the support and patronage the companies receive from their host . Ordinarily , companies all over the world try to maximize profit and apply extreme carefulness when it comes to spending on any project and their choice of where and what to invest on may is primarily driven by profit .
There are , however , some football pundits and analysts who hold a contrary sentiment from the government . They perceive the proposed sanctions as repressive . The pundits suppose that the much tested practice is to package the league appropriately and make it attractive enough for investors . After all , companies invest on football clubs abroad because of profitability . And since the league doesn ' t draw a lot of local support , investing therein might just amount to deliberate financial wastefulness .
In this crossroad , there is a need to save the league . That need is urgent and ranks significantly above any other interests and sentiments . The government should engage these companies in dialogue and any partnership should also drift in the media . If dialogue fails , the sanctions would make a fine alternative . It ' s a basic practice world over for governments to desire the protection of local leagues and even players .
In fact , China is a decent and recent instance . The country – fearing that overwhelming influx of foreign players might ruin the chances of developing local talents in the Chinese Super League - has introduced quite a similar policy to protect the grooming of homemade talents . The Chinese 100 percent tax policy says that , “ clubs signing players through capital expenditure will be charged the same amount , with the full sum going to the Chinese Football Development Foundation , to train young players , promote social football and soccer charity activities .”
