It reinforces the idea that safety is not a siloed function but a system-wide imperative that touches leadership behaviour, operational discipline, and human wellbeing. Mining companies are already leading the charge by incorporating the strategic foundational pillars into their individual company safety and health strategies.
CEO-led visible felt leadership: a cultural catalyst One of the most transformative elements of Version 2.0 has been the CEO-led Visible Felt Leadership( VFL) pillar. The first two VFL engagements at Glencore Rhovan( July 2025) and the visit to Seriti’ s Khutlala Colliery( November 2025) have proven to be powerful platforms for safety sharing, trust-building and co-creation. These are not ceremonial visits. They are immersive, on-the-ground engagements where leadership listens, learns and leads by example.
The journey ahead is clear: deepen implementation, expand participation and accelerate learning. The goal is not just compliance, but transformation

One of the most transformative elements of Version 2.0 has been the CEO-led Visible Felt Leadership( VFL) pillar.
The success of these VFLs lies in their authenticity. Workers see their leaders showing up. They witness a commitment to proactive risk management, verified critical controls and a culture of care. These engagements have surfaced real-time insights, strengthened crosscompany collaboration and accelerated the adoption of leading practices.
Five pillars driving impact Khumbul ' ekhaya 2.0 is anchored in five execution pillars: 1. Cross-Company Visible Felt Leadership( VFL): CEO-led engagements that humanise safety and build trust.
2. Critical Control Management( CCM): Industry-wide bowties for Falls of Ground( FoG), Transport & Machinery( T & M), noise and dust hazards and revisiting foundational knowledge. 3. Data 4.0: A digital backbone for proactive decision-making, leading indicator tracking and early intervention. 4. Mental health and fatigue management: Recognising wellness as a core safety enabler in a post-COVID world.
5. Innovation and shared learning: Webinars, leading practice creation and adoption, cross-company knowledge exchange, women-in-mining and gender inclusion.
Each pillar is supported by a set of tools, platforms and performance metrics. For example, the Data 4.0 pillar includes a safety data acquisition platform and a drive to formulate further guidance on leading indicators. The CCM pillar is aligned with ICMM( International Council of Mining & Metals) terminology and includes bowtie models co-developed with industry experts.
