Africa Energy Indaba 2015 The Africa Energy Indaba receives global recognition as the foremost African energy event for energy professionals from across the globe. Adopted by the World Energy Council (WEC) as the African regional event of the WEC and presented by the South African National Energy Association (SANEA), the Africa Energy Indaba is supported by the African Union and the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency. As such, the Africa Energy Indaba has achieved the highest level of endorsement and support for an energy conference on the continent. The Africa Energy Indaba brings together international and continental experts to share their insights and solutions to Africa’s energy crisis, while exploring the vast energy development opportunities on offer in Africa. Delegates from across the continent attend what has become known as the business networking forum of choice for energy industry players. The conference is the forum for delegates to debate and exchange solutions to Africa’s energy challenges, whilst the exhibition component is a significant marketplace for African and international stakeholders looking for and doing business in Africa’s energy sector. AD i International recognition for quantity surveying profession The South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in London have committed to solidifying their relationship by signing a “Mutual Recognition of Professional Competence”. The two organisations met to discuss their ongoing relationship Professor Kathy Michell (left), and Louise Brooke-Smith 20 this month during a visit to South Africa by Louise Brooke-Smith, global president of RICS. “Both bodies play an important role in the built environment and share a common goal in setting and regulating professional standards in quantity surveying for the advancement of the profession,” says Brooke-Smith. The mutual recognition of qualifications means that registered members of SACQSP may become full members of RICS, while qualified quantity surveying members of RICS may be registered as professional quantity surveyors with SACQSP. Surveying Profession Act 2000 may become full members following satisfactory completion of the mandatory Ethics module assessment. RICS is recognised as the world’s leading qualification regarding professional standards in land, property and construction, and attaining RICS status is the recognised mark of property professionalism. The RICS qualif ication is recognised worldwide, enabling members to work across markets. SACQSP is a regulatory authority mandated to provide for the registration of professionals, In qualifying for RICS membership, candidates and specified categories in the quantity those registered with the surveying profession.
