DAY 1 Port Elizabeth / Knysna
After an afternoon departure from Port Elizabeth head along the scenic Garden Route which follows the Indian Ocean coastline and is bordered by soaring mountains and indigenous forests . Your destination is the seaside town of Knysna , which lies beside a beautiful lagoon .
DAY 2 Knysna
After breakfast , visit the spectacular Tsitsikamma National Park , Storms River Mouth ( weather permitting ) and the magical Knysna Forests , the stomping ground of the elusive Knysna elephants . The expedition into the forest starts with the Dalene Matthee Big Tree Memorial , named after an author of four books on Knysna Forest . Feast on a lunch of traditional cuisine and local treats before returning to Knysna . Later , join fellow travellers for dinner at Drydock Restaurant , renowned for dishes with glorious aromas and flavours .
DAY 3 Knysna / Oudtshoorn
Travel via the spectacular Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn , centre of the world ’ s ostrich farming industry . Along the way , visit ‘ Dolphin Point ’, an extraordinary viewpoint in Wilderness . In Oudtshoorn , visit an ostrich farm for a fun-filled interactive tour and light lunch before taking a tour of the impressive Cango Caves to marvel at the spectacular limestone formations .
DAY 4 Oudtshoorn / Cape Town
Early this morning you can join a Make Travel Matter Experience - Meerkat Safari ( at extra expense ), to witness these incredible creatures emerging from their burrows . After breakfast , travel through the Little Karoo to Barrydale and visit a local farm school ( subject to opening ) to interact with children and teachers ( a portion of the trip monies goes towards a fund supporting education of underprivileged children ). Continue to Cape Town where the tour ends .

AMAKHALA VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

A true hands-on conservation experience , involving a variety of tasks from Monday to Friday , usually for around 8 hours a day . Duties and experiences may include predator tracking , herbivore monitoring , darting and relocation , erosion control and helping at the Amakhala Foundation . Fun elements include bush survival skills , canoeing trips and excursions , while at weekends , you can explore or relax . Volunteers stay in comfortable rooms within a one-storey 11 bedroom house and , while all food is supplied , it ’ s prepared by you and other volunteers .
