DAY 1 Pretoria
Morning departure. Travel south across the gold fields of Witwatersrand and the broad grasslands of the Highveld. Join fellow guests in the dining car for lunch, then settle back and soak up the impressive scenery before afternoon tea and a delicious dinner.
DAY 2 Kimberley
This morning, continue to admire the changing panoramas and then make your way to the dining car for lunch. This afternoon, stop in Kimberley to tour Kimberley’ s Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole( the world’ s largest man-made excavation). Return to the train for dinner and perhaps a nightcap with some of your fellow travellers.
DAY 3 Matjiesfointain
Spend the morning travelling through the vast semi-arid desert Karoo region. After lunch there’ s a chance to disembark at Whitehall Siding for an accompanied three mile walk to Matjiesfontein, an authentically preserved Victorian village. Alternatively remain on the train and disembark at Matjiesfontein itself for time to explore and perhaps visit the impressive museum on the platform. Return to the train for tea and later look forward to another mouthwatering dinner as the train heads down the escarpment towards Worcester.
DAY 4 Cape Town
Feast on breakfast whilst travelling through the Hex River Valley before a final visit to the dining car for lunch. This memorable journey concludes with a mid-afternoon arrival in Cape Town.

DAY 1 Pretoria
Morning departure travelling north through Warmbaths( Bela-Bela), so named for its mineral waters, and Nylstroom, christened by the Voortrekkers as the source of the Nile River. The train then passes the edge of the escarpment where the Highveld steeply drops, crosses the Tropic of Capricorn and the Limpopo River to Beitbridge on the Zimbabwe border.
DAY 2 Bulawayo
After formalities at Beitbridge, the train travels towards Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’ s second city, capital of Matabeleland and industrial capital. The ever-changing views are interrupted only by lunch, afternoon tea and dinner as the train makes its way to Mpopoma.
DAY 3 Hwange National Park
Today, the train travels between Gwaai and Dete along one of the world’ s longest stretches of straight railway line before traversing the rich and diverse Hwange National Park, where animals can be spotted from the train. Disembark this afternoon, and look forward to a thrilling game drive at The Hide Game Lodge. Return to the train for dinner.
DAY 4 Victoria Falls
The journey ends when you reach the incomparable Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River.

DAY 1 Durban
Following a morning departure from Durban the train traverses the spectacular Valley of a Thousand Hills. After lunch in the dining car, disembark for a visit to the famous Ardmore Ceramics Gallery, where guests are encouraged to express their imagination based on nature and Zulu folklore and tradition. Return to the train for dinner as the train heads towards Ladysmith.
DAY 2 Spionkop & Nambiti
Disembark after breakfast and travel by road to Spionkop Lodge for a choice of two excursions. Perhaps opt to hear the historic tale of the Battle of Spionkop or, venture out into the 11,000 acre reserve for a game drive. Return to the train for lunch and absorb the views of the Drakensberg Mountains, named by the Voortrekkers who thought the peaks reminded them of spines on a dragon’ s back. This afternoon, you have a game drive in the Nambiti Reserve, a private Big Five bush retreat set on 20,000 acres of malaria-free bushveld with incredible biodiversity. This evening the train travels through decisive battle sites from the First Anglo Boer War.
DAY 3 Pretoria
Travel northwest across the goldfields of the Witwatersrand and the Highveld towards Balfour, a small mining town in Mpumalanga, and Heidelberg, site of the first Rand gold strike. Savour your last lunch on board before arriving in Pretoria mid-afternoon.
